Pirat

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

Pirat – about 40cm The affectionate Pirat came to our cooperation shelter in the spring of 2025 primarily because he needed medical help. For years, Pirat had been living somewhat on the streets, even though he had an owner. The head of our cooperation shelter regularly provided Pirat with water and food, and asked him to take care of the basics. Since Pirat had an eye injury that was not being treated by the owner, she took him in. During the medical intake examination, it was unfortunately discovered that Pirat is suffering from leishmaniasis. The therapy was immediately started. His eye is nearly healed, and since entering the shelter, he has shown a very positive development. Due to the poor living conditions, he will not be returned to his owner. Pirat is a loveable dog. Very people-oriented, calm, considerate, and not a barker. He gratefully accepts every pat and shows himself to be an incredibly uncomplicated dog. As soon as one leaves the kennel, he looks completely disappointed and sad, wishing to exchange his kennel place for a place in a home. We would very much like for Pirat to spend his last years stress-free, without mistreatment, and with lots of cuddles. Pirat is not a dog that demands much and is not a sports champion. He simply wishes for people who love him. Due to his loving nature, we assume that Pirat would also feel well in a household with children from around 8 years old. We are happy to send videos upon request. Pirat travels neutered, vaccinated, with an identification chip, and an EU pet passport. For those renting, a written confirmation from the landlord that the housing of a dog is permitted must be provided. This important point should be clarified before the request for placement.

About Pirat

What life with Pirat looks like

Pirat is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Paradies für Tiere e.V. in Reutlingen.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pirat, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pirat?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Paradies für Tiere e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pirat on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pirat if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Paradies für Tiere e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pirat already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pirat isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Paradies für Tiere e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pirat and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
