Adopt Pistachio

Mixed Breed · Male · Kitten · 7 months

Applications are now closed as Pistachio is due to meet his potential forever family shortly. If, for whatever reason, this doesn’t work out – we will be referring back to his existing applications. Pistachio could live with children aged 7+, he will require outdoor access once settled. Pistachio is a very friendly, confident and cheeky boy who loves to socialise. He was shy his first few days at the shelter but then came out of his shell in leaps and bounds! Pistachio loves to have a cuddle with his humans friends more than anything else in the world. He is very inquisitive and likes to explore the cattery. He seems a little unsure about toys at the moment, we don’t know his history so we suspect he might have not had any toys to play with before. He does sometimes use legs as a way to scratch, which is why we wouldn’t rehome him to a home with younger children. Overall Pistachio is just a happy, carefree boy who will make a loving and fun addition to his new home.

About Pistachio

What life with Pistachio looks like

Pistachio is a puppy/kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter in Newcastle.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pistachio, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pistachio?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pistachio on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pistachio if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pistachio already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pistachio isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Newcastle Dog and Cat Shelter early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pistachio and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
