adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! Peace in Peace, Pit… His story: For the old Pit, we are particularly seeking loving people who will give a chance to a sad and run-down dog, to spend the years that are left to him with dignity, warmth, and care. Pit was picked up by a private shelter in Baia Mare when his people abandoned him. There, he sits sadly, plagued by skin problems, and waits for his last chance. Unfortunately, we do not know Pit's history, and he can't tell us anything about it. It's likely that his people had him written off, chased away, and replaced with a younger one. We believe that Pit has never heard a friendly word or experienced affection, as one can see the great sadness within him. That's why we wish for Pit, the male dog, to be able to spend a peaceful old age in a loving home. Pit is at least 10 years old and approximately 65 to 70 cm tall. Pit's size and his remaining, light fur suggest that he is a herding dog. His body is scabbed and hairless in some places, and one can see his red skin and ribs. In accordance with his age and physical condition, Pit is a quiet and modest dog. But he has not given up hope; he wants to live and loves other dogs and people despite everything. For Pit, we are looking for adopters with a particularly big heart and a lot of optimism who are willing to take on the task of reviving the life in an old and sad dog. With a lot of patience, love, and care, it will certainly be possible to get a handle on Pit's skin problems, improve his fitness, and make a small smile appear on his face. We can imagine the large, old dog in a quiet home. When Pit, the weakened male dog, has recovered, he will surely regain his imposing appearance and may develop some typical herding dog traits. Therefore, we would be pleased if his new people have experience with herding dogs and can offer him a garden in a quiet and rural location where he can move freely and guard. The most important thing, however, is that Pit's adopters take him to their hearts and provide him with an appropriate life with peaceful walks and lots of cuddles. Who has a spot in their home and heart for the sad Pit? Even a foster home would be very helpful for him. Pit can travel to his new home with an EU pet passport, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. We thank Simona, the namesake, who gave Pit his name and thus a personal identity. A big thank you also goes to Monika K., who has taken on a monthly sponsorship for Pit. As of: 21.05.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Ruhe in Frieden, Pit… About Pit

What life with Pit looks like

Pit is a extra-large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pit, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pit?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pit on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pit if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pit already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pit isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pit and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
