adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this dog now! Pitou has found a home! His story: The handsome German Shepherd-male dog Pitou is just six months old but has already experienced a lot. He was found by a neighbor who couldn't or wouldn't keep him and eventually left him at the local supermarket. There, the little guy wandered aimlessly around. Not much is known about Pitou. Visually, it appears to be a German Shepherd mix. If it turns out to be a pure German Shepherd, it is likely to end up as a larger dog. German Shepherds generally reach a shoulder height of up to 60 cm, although Pitou probably won't reach that size. German Shepherds are generally very alert with a more or less pronounced protective and watchful drive. They need physical and mental stimulation. Pitou would certainly have a lot of fun with dog sports. Keywords here could be obedience, tracking, or mantrailing. Pitou is typical for a young puppy, playful, and needs to learn a lot. He is looking for sporty people with a house and garden who will take him by the scruff of the neck, teach him the basics of dog training, and include him fully in their lives. German Shepherds are generally considered very loyal and family-oriented. The new owner should also be aware that Pitou is approaching the demanding time of puberty in large steps. Pitou is friendly with other dogs. How he behaves towards cats cannot be tested and cannot be tested. Due to his young age, he is very open to a lot of things. His little bag is already packed by the nice male dog, waiting only for his travel arrangements ticket. Pitou has also packed his EU pet passport. Are you looking for a lively, energetic, active four-legged companion? Then Pitou is exactly the right one for you. If you want to give the handsome German Shepherd a nice home, please contact us. Many thanks, Kerstin K.! You gave Pitou his beautiful name! Date: 26.09. This animal is vaccinated. This animal is microchipped. Gets along with other dogs.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Vielen Dank Kerstin K.! Du hast Pitou seinen schönen Namen geschenkt! Stand: 26.09.2024

About Pitou

What life with Pitou looks like

Pitou is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pitou, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pitou?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pitou on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pitou if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pitou already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pitou isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pitou and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
