Meet sweet and pretty Pixie! Previous homes: Unknown. Pixie was rescued in May 2026 and has been living in foster care with us ever since. Neuter status: Spayed Weight: approximately 3.5 kg Rescue Story in Brief (as told by her rescuer) Pixie was rescued in May 2026 in critical condition. She was suffering from severe anaemia, systemic infection, sepsis, electrolyte imbalance and a massive flea infestation. She was immediately hospitalized and underwent extensive investigations, intensive care treatment and multiple surgeries. Despite a very guarded prognosis, she showed remarkable strength and responded well to treatment. Today she is safe, loved and recovering beautifully in foster care. Medical History In May 2026, Pixie was admitted in critical condition with severe anaemia, systemic inflammation, sepsis, electrolyte imbalance and poor circulatory status. FIV and FeLV tests were negative. Exploratory abdominal surgery revealed extensive abdominal inflammation and adhesions, as well as a retained surgical textile material, this was considered the likely source of chronic abdominal infection and sepsis. Due to irreversible damage caused by a severe renal abscess, her right kidney had to be surgically removed (right nephrectomy). During hospitalization, Pixie received intensive care including fluid therapy, antibiotics, pain management, nutritional support and two blood transfusions. Current Situation and Future Care Kidney Function Pixie now lives with one functional kidney and requires long-term monitoring. Recommended care: – renal diet for life – periodic blood tests (CBC and biochemistry) – creatinine and urea monitoring – electrolyte monitoring – urinalysis when recommended by a veterinarian – monitoring of body weight and appetite – blood pressure monitoring – monitoring water intake and urination Due to one kidney being removed, the risk of developing chronic kidney disease is higher than normal. At present she feels well, eats independently and is living her life safely in foster care. Vision Pixie is blind. Despite this, she has adapted exceptionally well to indoor life and navigates her environment confidently using her hearing, smell and memory. She receives daily eye drops to help prevent glaucoma and maintain eye comfort. Because of her blindness, Pixie should live strictly as an indoor cat. Temperament Details She likes human company and actively seeks affection. She enjoys being petted, likes to sleep close to people and often comes looking for attention and cuddles. Although blind, she adapted quickly to a completely new home. Within only a few days she learned where her food bowls, litter tray and favourite sleeping places were located. She uses her litter tray reliably and independently. Pixie has regained her appetite and is highly food motivated. She absolutely loves her renal wet food pouches and never misses a meal. Her diet is predominantly renal wet food, as recommended by her veterinarians. To help support hydration and kidney health, we usually mix a small amount of renal dry food into her wet food. She prefers wet food and is not particularly interested in eating dry food on its own. She currently lives with another cat and a dog. Because she is blind, she can become defensive when approached unexpectedly by other animals. During the introduction period she hissed, growled and occasionally swatted when they came too close. Over time, the resident cat and dog learned to respect her personal space and they now coexist peacefully. Pixie generally prefers keeping her distance from other animals and appears to be much more interested in human companionship. A home where she can be the only pet would likely suit her best, although she may also coexist with calm animals that respect her boundaries. Like many cats, she has clear personal boundaries. There is a small area on one side of her head that appears to be more sensitive. If touched there, she may gently mouth or give a warning nip. She communicates discomfort clearly and has never shown unprovoked aggression towards people. Pixie currently lives in a foster home with another cat and a dog. The resident cat and dog have since learned to respect her personal space and there is now very little direct interaction between them. For this reason, we do not have videos showing active play or close social interaction. Pixie appears to prefer human companionship over interactions with other animals. Additional videos of Pixie moving around the house, navigating her environment independently and interacting affectionately with people can be provided upon request. Reasons for Rehoming Pixie was rescued as an emergency medical case. The original intention was to save her life, provide all necessary medical treatment and then find her a loving permanent home. We are therefore looking for a special family willing to offer her the stable, loving forever home she deserves.
