Platon (Платон)

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 15 years

The dog returned to the animal shelter after an unsuccessful adoption 7 years ago. The owners turned out to be irresponsible and did not take care of the animal's health. Because of this, the animal had to be treated and the front leg amputated. Now Plato is having problems again - the remaining front leg has open wounds between the toes and some kind of tissue growth has appeared. We cannot allow Plato to lose his second front leg. A preliminary examination has already been done. The wound is purulent-necrotic. Antibiotic therapy has been started. According to the veterinarian's recommendations, a histology is needed, but there are currently difficulties in conducting the necessary tests. The veterinarian does not exclude oncology. It is currently difficult to determine the treatment period. The need for surgical intervention is questionable. The estimated cost of treatment is 5000 UAH. UPD. 24.05.2022. Plato is currently living in the animal shelter and feels good. The wound has almost healed. Thanks to special food recommended by the veterinarian, the dog's condition is improving. If you are ready to become a real loving owner or want to learn more about Plato, we suggest reading the description of the animal provided by the owners of the animal shelter where the dog lives: "Platon, our disabled dog without a front leg. PLATON NEEDS YOUR HELP!!! Look closely at Platon - he is a very well-mannered dog, trained for walks on a leash, kind, loves children very much, obviously has labradors in his family and has the same character and upbringing. He is not young, but not very old either, he has been living in the shelter for six years, but we have not lost hope of finding him a home or at least temporary shelter for the winter. He needs to protect his only front leg, it would be a tragedy if something happened, the dog is quite large and would not be able to walk on his hind legs." The treatment of Plato continues. As of 15.04.22, enough money was collected. Thank you all generous donors. On May 7, 2022, Plato was taken from the veterinary clinic. From now on, the dog will be fed with a special pet food, according to the veterinarian's recommendation.

About Platon (Платон)

What life with Platon (Платон) looks like

Platon (Платон) is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Happy Paw Zaporizhzhia in Ukraine.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Frequently asked

Adopting Platon (Платон), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Platon (Платон)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Happy Paw Zaporizhzhia handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Platon (Платон) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Platon (Платон) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Happy Paw Zaporizhzhia will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Platon (Платон) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Platon (Платон) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Happy Paw Zaporizhzhia early rather than rehoming privately; they know Platon (Платон) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (UK). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
