Poldi

Male · Adult · 5 years

Name: Poldi Breed: Brackenmix, 60 cm, 27 kg. Born: Summer 2009 (approx. 1.5 years old) Health: vaccinated, microchipped, healthy and neutered/spayed Character: Poldi came to his current owner at the end of 2021. Due to his hunting tendencies, Poldi's endurance was put to the test during illness and after the loss of his partner. With heavy hearts, a loving, experienced hunting home is now sought for the male dog. What doesn't work so well: Poldi is not reliably recallable from off-leash and follows rabbit trails. On a leash, he puts in a lot of effort and switches to full-on pursuit. Additionally, he occasionally shows rude behavior towards unneutered male dogs of his weight class. What we like: At home, Poldi generally behaves quietly and shows no territorial behavior. He takes every treat with extreme caution, does not defend his food, and allows easy examination by the vet. Poldi is a cheerful companion who shows endurance on long walks and enjoys playing with female dogs and neutered male dogs. Poldi likes to ride in the car, can be taken to hotels and restaurants without problems, and is more reserved with strangers. His prey drive is limited to rabbits and similar. He is indifferent or keeps a respectful distance from horses, cows, cats, and cyclists. Desired home: Poldi is to be handed over to experienced hands. Ideally, he would be placed with people who enjoy ambitious nose work, can accommodate his running enthusiasm, and preferably have a well-fenced property. Other dogs or cats are generally no problem for Poldi.

About Poldi

What life with Poldi looks like

Poldi is a large adult dog waiting at Hundesuche Tiere in Not Bayern in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Poldi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Poldi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hundesuche Tiere in Not Bayern handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Poldi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Poldi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hundesuche Tiere in Not Bayern will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Poldi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Poldi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hundesuche Tiere in Not Bayern early rather than rehoming privately; they know Poldi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
