Pompon

Male · Puppy

Arrived from Guadeloupe, Pompon is an adorable, affectionate, and playful dog always seeking affection and moments of intimacy. In Guadeloupe, he experienced hardship, wandered for a long time, and often lacked food. He was attacked by several dogs, which left him with a disability. An MRI revealed a non-operable spinal cord lesion that gives him a distinctive gait but does not prevent him from moving; walks will need to be short and regular. He has varying control over his need to urinate and defecate during walks, but with time and patience, you can manage his needs. This is why we prefer a ground-floor house or apartment with a garden accessible without stairs so he can go out more often. Regular veterinary follow-up will be necessary. Adopting an animal with an additional disability is a decision to be made with full knowledge of the situation, knowing that he will need muscle-strengthening exercises, which he is currently undergoing at Canémotion at the Comboire space in Échirolles. One of his godmothers tested Pompon's behavior by taking him as a foster family for 4 days and 3 nights from April 23-24-25-26, 2026. Here is the summary: – Nighttime incontinence: During these 3 nights, there was no soiling in the house. Pompon slept continuously until 9 a.m. – Being alone in the house (without my dog): Pompon stayed alone for more than an hour. He slept and did not move (verified by camera). – His bowl: He ate at the same time as my dog. I interrupted his meal to give him his medication. No problem. And more generally: Despite his difficult past, Pompon is a small, very pleasant dog to live with and retains an incredible zest for life. The only reaction he has to a cat intrusion is to bark. A family without children or over 10 years old is preferred so that he is not constantly solicited. He needs rest and calm. He is easily fatigued. This animal is not suitable for homes with young children. This animal is for adult-only homes.

FR·Show original

About Pompon

What life with Pompon looks like

Pompon is a small puppy/kitten dog waiting at SPA du Dauphine in Grenoble.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pompon, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pompon?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SPA du Dauphine handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pompon on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pompon if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SPA du Dauphine will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pompon already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pompon isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SPA du Dauphine early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pompon and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
