Popeye

Staffordshire Bull Terrier · Male · Adult · 6 years

Popeye loves to get out for adventures in new places, and will be a wonderful companion for fun walks. He is a really sweet lad and settles well in his kennel, so we can see this translating well into a home. Popeye enjoys a fuss from his friends and has the best Staffy smile. Popeye is a bit undersocialised with other dogs, so will need polite, calm doggy friends that can help him with this. Popeye is not currently house-trained, but with a routine, he will pick this up in no time! He would prefer a family that are home with him for most of the time while his time alone gets built up, as we have minimal history on how he would cope. We can't wait to see this sweet, handsome lad in his forever home! Meet gorgeous lad, Popeye! Popeye is a beautiful 6-year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier looking for his forever home. Popeye would like to be the only dog in the home, but making polite, calm friends out and about would be beneficial. Popeye is a sweet angel, who can be a little worried meeting new people initially but comes around super quickly and enjoys a fuss. For this reason, he would prefer for any children in the home to be 14yrs+. Popeye loves to get out and about on his walks, enjoying all the sights and smells that are on offer. He can pull on lead, but enjoys his chicken and cheese so is learning to walk nicely. Popeye would suit a quieter home where he can come out of his shell on his own terms, as we don't know if Mr Popeye has ever experienced home life before! Popeye would love an understanding, patient family that are able to give him some time to build that trust, and we're sure he'll be the sweetest lad!

About Popeye

What life with Popeye looks like

Popeye is a adult staffordshire bull terrier dog waiting at Dogs Trust Cardiff in Cardiff.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Popeye, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Popeye?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Cardiff handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Popeye on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Popeye if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Cardiff will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Popeye already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Popeye isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Cardiff early rather than rehoming privately; they know Popeye and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
