Adopt Porteris

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Since November, we have been visiting the clinic with Porter, hoping to help him. It all started when he arrived at the shelter... We noticed that he was different from his siblings. He walked more difficultly, grew more slowly. When we took him to the clinic and performed tests, it turned out that the puppy had experienced trauma. The back part of his body and legs were injured. From that day on, Porter has been doing special exercises to strengthen his back legs, which he walks with difficulty. Last week, he visited the clinic again, where X-rays were repeated as he had grown a bit. We hoped for the best, but the results were not encouraging... His left leg is shorter, a diagnosis of a traumatic slipped capital femoral epiphysis of the left femoral head. Nothing can be changed... Porter will remain special, limping puppy for life. We will continue to strengthen his legs with massages and plan to start swimming. Porter has won over the hearts of the entire team from the first days. The puppy enjoys special attention and we are happy that he ended up with us and has a chance for a long and happy life. It doesn't matter if it's a new home or if he remains part of our big family. Birthday: 2024.11.04 Vaccinated, microchipped, due to health problems, we are looking for special homes and owners ready to regularly visit the pool as needed and ensure veterinary care.

About Porteris

What life with Porteris looks like

Porteris is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at SOS Gyvūnai in Šalčininkų r. sav..

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇱🇹Adopting from Lithuania

Frequently asked

Adopting Porteris, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Porteris?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SOS Gyvūnai handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Porteris on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Porteris if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SOS Gyvūnai will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Porteris already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Porteris isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SOS Gyvūnai early rather than rehoming privately; they know Porteris and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (LT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
