Portia

Poodle · Female · Adult · 4 years

03-10-26 Portia is a sweet but timid girl who has come into our care from a breeder in search of a new start. She is easy to handle and will lie down when we go to pick her up. Portia will also approach us for a little sniff, but she is not quite brave enough for more interaction just yet. She is still finding her confidence and will need gentle encouragement as she gets used to people. She will be looking for a loving home with adopters who have plenty of time to spend with her and will help her to come out of her shell at her own pace. We would consider homing her with gentle dog savvy teenagers 13+. Portia gets on wonderfully with her kennel friends and relies on their company for comfort, so she will need a kind resident dog in her new home to help guide her and give her the reassurance she needs as she settles in and finds her paws. As Portia has never lived in a home before, she will need to learn all about house training, lead training and the other basics of home life. Her new family will need to be patient and give her the time she needs to adjust to all the new sights, sounds and experiences of living in a home. Portia is a lovely gentle girl who is making little steps in the right direction, and we hope that with the support of a kind canine companion and patient adopters, she will slowly discover her confidence and begin to enjoy all the love and comforts of a home of her own. She has a travel document. This dog can be homed with a resident dog.

About Portia

What life with Portia looks like

Portia is a adult poodle dog waiting at Many Tears Animal Rescue in Llanelli.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Portia, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Portia?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Many Tears Animal Rescue handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Portia on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Portia if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Many Tears Animal Rescue will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Portia already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Portia isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Many Tears Animal Rescue early rather than rehoming privately; they know Portia and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
