Adopt POSEK

Mixed Breed · Unknown

POSEK is a withdrawn dog. From behind the bars of his cage, he barks at any approaching figure, but in direct contact, he tries to run and curl up in fear. We don’t know what might have happened to him in his past life, but a human and a leash are not associated with anything good for him. It took the volunteers a lot of time to establish any kind of contact with him and take him on his first walk. At first, on the walk, he was terrified of everything and would have preferred to run back to his cage and shelter, where he felt safe. After a few walks, however, he began to understand that the world isn’t as terrible as he thought and that it’s worth exploring and sniffing out the unknown territories. Currently, POSEK still very much fears sudden movements towards him, all new things, street traffic, barking dogs, and other noises. He allows himself to be petted and touched, but it still doesn’t bring him joy. We continue to work with him on building his confidence and learning new things. POSEK is looking for a caregiver who is patient, preferably with experience working with withdrawn dogs, who will provide him with the necessary support and will continue working with him on overcoming his fears."

Read original (pl)

Posek to pies wycofany.

About POSEK

What life with POSEK looks like

POSEK is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Lublin in Lublin.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting POSEK, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about POSEK?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Lublin handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw POSEK on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt POSEK if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Lublin will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is POSEK already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if POSEK isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Lublin early rather than rehoming privately; they know POSEK and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
