Puma

European Shorthair · Male · Adult · 8 years

Puma is looking for experienced people with patience. Puma came to us as a private donation after his owner was no longer able to care for him due to health reasons. Upon arrival, it quickly became clear that his own health status was not the best either. A blood test finally revealed the diagnosis: diabetes. Currently, Puma is still in the acclimation phase. Before regular treatment can be possible, we are working on gaining his trust first. He is still very uncertain about people and does not know how to react in many situations. Nevertheless, he shows interest in his caregivers - especially when snacks are involved. In the meantime, he also lets himself be gently stroked and makes progress step by step. His diet has already been changed to a suitable special food. Adjusting his diabetes will still require time and patience. We are looking for calm, experienced cat owners who ideally have experience with diabetes or are willing to deal intensively with the topic. Fear of needles should not be present, nor should one be aware that Puma will also require regular veterinary check-ups and medical care in the future. A home with small children, other animals or a lot of noise is not an option for Puma. He is looking for a quiet apartment with a secure balcony where he can gain trust at his own pace.

About Puma

What life with Puma looks like

Puma is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at Franziskus-Tierheim Hamburg in Hamburg.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Puma, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Puma?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Franziskus-Tierheim Hamburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Puma on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Puma if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Franziskus-Tierheim Hamburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Puma already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Puma isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Franziskus-Tierheim Hamburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Puma and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
