Pumba

Male

Pumba is a very special Savannah cat with an extraordinary character. He is curious, active and brings his own unique characteristics, which is why his future owners need some experience, understanding and above all attention. Pumba unfortunately shows incontinence and is therefore not suitable for every household. Additionally, he has the so-called Pica syndrome. This means that he likes to chew on different textiles and sometimes even eats them. He is particularly interested in blankets, towels and cosy beds. Therefore, special caution is required in Pumba's daily life. At our shelter, we use thick bath towels and completely avoid textiles with fringes or loose hanging threads. Also, when it comes to toys, it must be ensured that he cannot bite or swallow parts. For him, only robust, hard toys are suitable - play mice or similar that he could swallow are not suitable for him. Pumba needs people who take his special needs seriously and are willing to make his home safe accordingly. His Pica behavior requires attention and a conscious selection of textiles and toys in everyday life. For Pumba, we wish for indoor housing or secure outdoor access, such as a cat-proof fenced garden. This way, he can explore his surroundings and at the same time be kept safe. Despite his special needs, Pumba is a very special cat who is looking for people who can adapt to his individual character and offer him a suitable, well-prepared home. Pumba is not an ordinary cat - and that's exactly what makes him so special. Do you think you are the right person for Pumba or would you like to get to know him better? Then contact us.

About Pumba

What life with Pumba looks like

Pumba is a adult cat waiting at Tierschutzverein für Tirol in Innsbruck.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Pumba, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Pumba?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein für Tirol handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Pumba on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Pumba if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein für Tirol will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Pumba already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Pumba isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein für Tirol early rather than rehoming privately; they know Pumba and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
