Adopt Quax

Unknown

Special tomcat seeks special home – Quax wants to arrive. Our brave tomcat Quax is a true miracle on four legs. At just 14 weeks old, he fell from the 4th floor of his previous home and was initially completely paralyzed. But Quax never gave up – with lots of care, patience, and love, he has gradually fought his way back to life. Today, he can walk, jump, and even hunt his beloved mice outside – though with some mild neurological limitations that don’t slow him down much. By the way, he carries his name for a reason: “Quax the Crash Pilot” – a fitting nickname for a small tomcat with a big survival drive and plenty of character. Despite his progress, Quax still requires special consideration. Due to the neurological damage, he sometimes kicks uncontrollably in his sleep and occasionally has incontinence. For hygienic reasons, we unfortunately can’t keep him in our home anymore, especially not with our daughter. We are looking for a home for Quax with understanding people with hearts who don’t mind small “accidents,” but instead value a loyal, unique tomcat. A secure outdoor space or a quiet area with a leash would be perfect for him – he truly comes alive outside. He came from a household with originally two other cats and is very friendly. Now, he has learned to purr – though it’s more of a brief purr. Quax is neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. He doesn’t require any medication – just a little more attention and a big heart. If you believe Quax could be a good fit for you, please contact us. We look forward to your message – and so does Quax!. This animal was surrendered to the shelter.

About Quax

What life with Quax looks like

Quax is a small adult cat waiting at Tierheim Ettlingen in Ettlingen.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Quax, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Quax?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Ettlingen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Quax on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Quax if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Ettlingen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Quax already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Quax isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Ettlingen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Quax and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
