Quetzal

Female · Senior · 10 years

QUETZAL DEL MATOCHAR 08/07/15 ( CH. Max del Matochar X CH. Kika del Matochar) Quetzal is a beautiful female Brittany, she is ten years old, her date of birth is 08/07/2015 Quetzal is a gorgeous older Brittany, she’s a small dog, and despite her age, very active and energetic. She’s sociable with other dogs and currently shares her kennel with five other Brittanys, sharing space and food without any problems. She’s very sweet and affectionate with people and is always attentive. She comes when called in the confines of the shelter. Quetzal comes from a Brittany breeder near Madrid. We recently heard that the breeder was being evicted from his land and his 33 Brittanys were at risk. He managed to rehome 15 of the dogs and together with two other rescues we offered to take the remaining 18 dogs. The breeder brought them up to the north of Spain and SeBPRA took on 11 of the Brittanys. All are pedigree dogs, and they will have been used for hunting, breeding and showing. Several of the dogs have Champion titles and PAN certification (Prueba de Aptitudes Naturales (Natural Aptitudes Test), an official field evaluation that assesses a dog’s natural hunting instincts and is usually mandatory before a dog can claim a Champion show title. It ensures that dual purpose breeds still retain the working breed qualities. We know Poker, Roma, Tormenta, Xiloe, and Xirius have been shown, however the Brittany is a true dual purpose breed, so these dogs are just as likely to have been out hunting last weekend as in the show ring.

About Quetzal

What life with Quetzal looks like

Quetzal is a small senior dog waiting at Setter, Brittany & Pointer Rescue Association in United Kingdom.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Quetzal, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Quetzal?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Setter, Brittany & Pointer Rescue Association handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Quetzal on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Quetzal if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Setter, Brittany & Pointer Rescue Association will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Quetzal already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Quetzal isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Setter, Brittany & Pointer Rescue Association early rather than rehoming privately; they know Quetzal and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
