adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Quintus has found its home quickly! His story: The little Quintus was found in a trash can on the street. He was tiny and therefore very weak. He likely wouldn't have survived long, but fortunately, people noticed him and saved him. He was nourished and has overcome what he experienced. Quintus lives in one of our foster homes in Romania and is searching for his family. Quintus is described as a lively young tomcat. Typical for his age, he plays a lot, has a few ideas in his head, and enjoys his life. The handsome red tomcat also shows himself to people very openly and uncomplicated. He is strongly oriented towards his foster mom and will sometimes run up to her in the apartment out of interest, not wanting to miss anything. As a cherry on top, Quintus not only gets along well with cats but also with dogs. In his foster home, he lives problem-free with both cats and dogs and is also very open and friendly here. We do not place Quintus as a single cat because that would surely be missing something for him. If there are dogs present that the cats are familiar with, that is also no problem. Quintus's special feature is that he has ataxia, triggered by cerebellar hypoplasia, which is a malformation of the cerebellum. As you can see in the videos, Quintus doesn't know anything about his "disability." He fully participates in normal life. Nevertheless, we place Quintus as a safety measure exclusively as an indoor cat. Who falls in love with our Quintus and gives him a secure future? The little snuggly cat can start his journey to his new home and will then be microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. Additionally, he will be tested negative for FIV and FeLV and will also bring an EU pet passport. Stand: 24.09. Many thanks to Stephanie S., you gave Quintus his name and helped him take the first step into his new life!

Stand: 24.09.2024

About Quintus

What life with Quintus looks like

Quintus is a very small puppy/kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Quintus, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Quintus?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Quintus on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Quintus if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Quintus already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Quintus isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Quintus and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
