Ra

Male · Young · 3 years

Ra is a beautiful Cornish Rex with an equally special character. If you are looking for a cat that truly wants to be part of the family, you should definitely get to know this unique cuddly cat. Ra is incredibly affectionate. He prefers to spend his days in the company of his owner. Cozy on the couch together, walking behind you through the house or just being close... as long as he can be with his people. Ra is a cat who likes to be in the middle of family life and clearly lets you know that he wants to be involved in everything that happens. His breed also plays a role in this. The Cornish Rex is known as a social, intelligent and energetic cat. They are often very people-oriented, playful and curious and enjoy company. Their short, wavy fur feels wonderfully soft and gives them that typical, almost elf-like appearance. They are cats that like to seek interaction and usually do not feel satisfied with a life in which they receive little attention. A Cornish Rex wants to participate! And that is exactly why we are looking for a very specific home for Ra. He will be placed as a single cat and without other animals. We are looking for people who are at home a lot and can give him the attention and closeness he enjoys so much. A quiet household, with enough time for Ra, would be ideal for him. There is another important point to consider. When Ra experiences too much stress, he can develop eosinophilic granuloma. At such times, he needs medication. Currently, this is fully under control and Ra is doing well, but stress can cause the symptoms to reappear. A stable, quiet environment and owners who can take this into account are therefore extremely important. Ra is not a cat for just any family. But for the right person, he can become a fantastic housemate. A cat that likes to be close to you, thoroughly enjoys attention and considers your company at least as important as his own cat basket. Who has a lot of time, a quiet home and, above all, a lot of love to give to this special cuddly cat? Maybe Ra is waiting for you.

NL·Show original

Ra is namelijk ontzettend aanhankelijk.

About Ra

What life with Ra looks like

Ra is a young adult cat waiting at Dierenbescherming Mechelen in Mechelen.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ra, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ra?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierenbescherming Mechelen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ra on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ra if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dierenbescherming Mechelen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ra already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ra isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierenbescherming Mechelen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ra and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
