Rafa

Podenco · Male · Puppy · 4 months

Rafa, our sweet little Podenco puppy, was found all alone on the street. He was taken to the police, who then contacted us. So Rafa safely arrived at PAWS-PATAS. Luckily, Rafa did not have to stay in the shelter for long, because he now has the luck of being in a nice foster home. Here he gets all the time, attention and guidance he needs to grow into a happy and well-socialized young dog. In his foster home, Rafa is currently learning everything. He learns step by step to walk nicely on a leash and is busy with potty training. There is also another dog in the house. Rafa learns a lot from him and naturally learns how to behave as a dog. He learns not only from his example, but also where his boundaries are and how to respect them. Rafa is an incredibly sweet, happy and playful puppy. He is still young and of course still has a lot to learn, but thanks to the good guidance in his foster home, he is making great progress. We are looking for a loving and active family for Rafa who wants to further guide him in his development and give him the time, attention, training and exercise he needs. A garden would be very nice for Rafa, so he can play and discover. Rafa has had a wonderful start in his foster home. Now we hope that a family comes who wants to give him a loving and safe home for the rest of his life.

About Rafa

What life with Rafa looks like

Rafa is a small puppy podenco dog waiting at description in AL Ridderkerk.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rafa, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rafa?: Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. description handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rafa on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rafa if I live in another country?: Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — description will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Rafa already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?: Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rafa isn't the right fit?: Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with description early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rafa and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?: TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
