Rond 20 november 2025 kreeg de gemeente een melding dat een zwerfhond was bevallen in een oud opslaggebouw in een veld bij Agios Spyridonas Doridos, een dorp dat helaas niet bekendstaat als een veilige plek voor honden. In het tijdelijke gemeentelijke asiel was geen ruimte voor het gezin, en daar heerste op dat moment ook parvo. Gelukkig kwam er een toegewijde vrijwilliger die zich om het gezin bekommerde. Maandenlang zorgde hij dat de pups eten kregen, warm bleven en veilig waren, totdat het eindelijk verantwoord was om ze te verhuizen. Dankzij zijn inzet konden de zes pups uitgroeien tot sterke, levenslustige hondjes. Sindsdien verblijven ze in het gemeentelijke asiel, waar vrijwilligers hen met liefde verzorgen. Er wordt ook hard gewerkt om hun moedige moeder te vangen, zodat zij kan worden gesteriliseerd en niet langer hoeft te zwerven. Eén van de teefjes was even weggelopen, maar werd veilig teruggevonden en is nu weer bij haar broertjes en zusjes. Alle pups hebben hun tweede vaccinatie gehad en worden regelmatig gewogen, de grootste weegt inmiddels al 5 kilo. Rafaela laat ondanks haar moeilijke start zien dat ze een sterk en liefdevol karakter heeft. Rafaela zoekt een zachte, begripvolle omgeving waar ze mag groeien op haar eigen tempo, dan wordt ze een prachtige, tedere gezinshond.
