Ragnar

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 8 years

Ragnar is eagerly waiting for his home at our Polish partner shelter. He is a beautiful mixed-breed dog with a strong build. However, his dog soul is marked by an impressive gentleness and tenderness. Ragnar had a home before. We don't know why he was no longer wanted. Despite losing his home, the blind dog has adapted well to his new environment. Ragnar enjoys walks very much. Curious, he sniffs around while exploring his surroundings. He can orient himself well by hearing. Ragnar often seeks contact with his humans. Every touch and every sound helps him navigate his darkness. Ragnar often reacts to his fellow dogs with an intrusive or impulsive, or also cautious behavior. This is due to his blindness, as he cannot assess the behavior of other dogs and react appropriately. Life in the shelter is a big challenge for a blind dog. Therefore, we are looking for a loving home for Ragnar as soon as possible. It should be quiet and located in a rural area. We wish for the friendly dog a fenced garden where he can safely enjoy outdoor time. The future home should allow Ragnar to arrive calmly and in a relaxed atmosphere. With the positive support of his humans, Ragnar can gradually learn everything needed for adapting to a new living environment. It would certainly be an advantage if his future family already has experience living with a blind dog. If your heart and mind have decided that the handsome Ragnar may take his place with you and your living conditions can meet Ragnar's needs, we look forward to your serious inquiry. Adopting a rescue dog always means taking on a special responsibility and can also be a challenge. The dogs bring along a backpack of past experiences or unlearned situations and need time to adjust to their new life. If you have a sincere interest in adopting Ragnar, please contact the responsible adoption officer of SALVA Dog Help. We would also be very happy about the provision of a foster home. The contact details can be found below.

About Ragnar

What life with Ragnar looks like

Ragnar is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ragnar, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ragnar?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ragnar on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ragnar if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ragnar already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ragnar isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SALVA Hundehilfe e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ragnar and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
