Adopt Raj

Male · 1 year

I am Raj, a young, curious, and playful young cockatiel, just at the beginning of my life. I was found and now seek a wonderful, animal-friendly home forever. Would you like to learn more about me? Unfortunately, someone must have severely trimmed my tail feathers, leaving me flightless when I arrived at our shelter. Since then, they have slowly grown back. Currently, I still fly rather awkwardly, but with some time and training, that will surely improve. I am a cheerful, lively bird who now wants to finally arrive and find an animal-friendly home – with company, space, and people who can give me time to regain my trust. I wish for a home where I can live out my natural behavior. An ideal setting would be a spacious outdoor aviary with a shelter, where I can live together with fellow animals – preferably, of course, with a female companion bird of similar age. Suitable for apartment living is also possible, provided there is enough space, daily free flight, and mental stimulation. The aviary should be at least 4 meters long, about 1 meter deep, and 2 meters high for a pair. In a pure aviary setup, the ground area must be at least 5 square meters to give both birds enough space to fly and move around. Would you perhaps give me a wonderful home?

About Raj

What life with Raj looks like

Raj is a large adult bird waiting at Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg in Berlin.

Birds are long-lived, social, and noisy. The species and individual history matter enormously — ex-companion parrots can carry strong attachments and trauma. Ask the shelter about their daily routine, diet, and whether they'd do best alone or with a flockmate.

Note from the shelter: Flight feathers were severely clipped, currently regrowing. Needs time and training to regain full flight ability. Requires companionship with another bird.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Raj, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Raj?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Raj on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Raj if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Raj already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most birds on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Raj isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Berlin Falkenberg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Raj and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
