Adopt Rambo

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 11 years

The terrier mix Rambo, rehomed from our animal shelter five years ago, has once again lost his home because his owner sadly passed away. In early May 2022, he was returned to our care. The small male dog would like to be everywhere and knows how to behave. However, he is also characteristically strong and can sometimes show himself to be a charming but stubborn individual. Rambo does not like to be pressured and would avoid close proximity and prolonged petting. Therefore, he should not be rehomed with children. Rambo gets along with fellow animals and ignores cats, but growls if they get too close. The currently slightly overweight mixed breed travels well in the car and enjoys going for walks. Update: Rambo felt increasingly neglected in the animal shelter and has recently developed stereotypic behaviors like circling out of desperation. We feared he might become resigned and give up. Because he developed a strong bond with one of our animal caretakers, who loves and is very attached to him, he has been given a permanent foster placement and is clearly much happier now. Patrons can support Rambo by becoming a sponsor.

About Rambo

What life with Rambo looks like

Rambo is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Detmold in Detmold.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rambo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rambo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Detmold handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rambo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rambo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Detmold will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rambo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rambo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Detmold early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rambo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
