Adopt Rastas

Mixed Breed · Male

(Rastas is not up for adoption, he has to be operated on and recover). Here I go: I'm a little pup who, although I'm very young, had to get used to living on the streets. It's not too bad in my village. There are trash cans, and sometimes the neighbors give me some good food. Now I find out I'm a Yorkie, apparently I'm quite the hit with people. The only problem I have is my fur: it tangles and pulls on my skin, if it rains and I get wet, it takes days to dry and I get very cold. They took me to the city, and the vet found out I have undescended testicles. They operated on me, and then noticed something was wrong with my hips; apparently, my pelvis doesn't have enough space for the femur head to fit properly. Only the people in the city notice these things and worry so much. It's definitely time for another operation, so I'm waiting calmly and confidently for the treats that await me. Meanwhile, everyone here is complaining. "This dog is a disaster!" It seems they could only operate on one side. In a few days, they'll operate on the other side. "They love operating on people, these...!" The ladies are taking me home, to see if they can give me a good dinner and make tomorrow a better day...

About Rastas

What life with Rastas looks like

Rastas is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at NuevaVida Adopciones Madrid in Madrid.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rastas, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rastas?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. NuevaVida Adopciones Madrid handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rastas on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rastas if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — NuevaVida Adopciones Madrid will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rastas already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rastas isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with NuevaVida Adopciones Madrid early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rastas and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
