Ray

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 18 years

Some cats arrive at this breed shelter with difficult stories. Others arrive with something extra: a fragility that makes them even more special. Ray is one of them. Ray arrives from Reggio Calabria, after a volunteer faced a complicated situation and couldn't find a place to take him in. She didn't know how to provide the care and security he needed. So, a small journey of solidarity began, leading him to our abandoned cat shelter, where he now lives safely. Ray is blind. His world is made of smells, sounds, light steps, and voices he learns to recognize. Despite his disability, he is an incredibly sweet, affectionate cat, capable of creating a deep bond with those who take care of him. However, with other cats, things are different. Probably because of his blindness, Ray doesn't feel safe when his peers are around. The sudden movements, noises, and difficulty in orienting himself put him on edge. For this reason, he prefers to stay in a quiet space where he feels protected and knows no one will surprise him. After getting to know and observe him, we understood that for Ray, the best choice is to stay with us, in the place where he has found stability, care, and people who respect his pace. For him, we are looking for distant adoption only. It's a simple but precious gesture that allows you to contribute to his maintenance, veterinary care, and food, helping the shelter to continue the work of rescuing abandoned, disabled, or stray cats. Adopting Ray at a distance means becoming part of his story and ensuring that he continues to live serenely, despite the difficulties. If you want to help him, find all the information in the section dedicated to distant adoptions on our website. Ray may not see the world with his eyes, but he feels perfectly when someone decides to take care of him. And for a cat like him, this makes all the difference. About Ray

What life with Ray looks like

Ray is a small senior mixed breed cat waiting at Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali in Italy.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇮🇹Adopting from Italy

Italian canili require adopters to sign a stewardship contract (affido) and may retain the right to verify the animal's wellbeing post-adoption. Animals are chipped and sterilized before leaving (Legge 281/91). Public canili rifugio typically waive adoption fees.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ray, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ray?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ray on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ray if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ray already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ray isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Lo Scudo di Pan - Rifugio per Animali early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ray and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (IT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
