adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Red can stay forever in his foster home! His story: In his foster home, Red shows himself as a true sunbeam. He is a cheerful, friendly, and interested dog. He already walks calmly on a loose leash. During this, he has no problems with dog encounters or passing cyclists and cars. In the house, he also shows no fear of everyday noises. Red also travels well in the car. He is friendly and compatible with other dogs as well. Currently, he lives with several other dogs in his foster home. Red loves his people very much and is always there when something happens. In the shelter, he began to spin when the staff left and he was confined in the small pen at high volume. In his foster home, he still spins occasionally during the day when something upsets or stresses him. However, he can be interrupted by words. Therefore, a quiet home would be ideal for him, where his people work exclusively from home, so he doesn't have to spend hours alone at home. Lying in his dog bed, he can relax well. An ideal living location for Red would be on the outskirts of a city or in the countryside. Red is no couch potato. From his quirky behavior, one could conclude that perhaps a terrier is in him. For his even temperament, he needs enough movement and mental stimulation. Tracking makes him very happy during walks. He also likes to occupy himself with a toy in the garden and run around on the lawn. We think that a garden would greatly suit his need for movement and even temperament. An important point is a positive reinforcement training style. In dog training classes, he might even find an activity that keeps him busy, brings him joy, and strengthens the bond between two and four-legged friends. His love for treats is certainly a good prerequisite. Red brings a sad story with him and was rescued by our helper Istvan after learning about his fate. Once, Red had owners who apparently took good care of him. But they emigrated to Great Britain and left Red behind – with the parents who were already 85 years old and could no longer take good care of Red. Therefore, he was chained up. For two years, he stood at a 1-meter-long chain and only received pig feed. Finally, Red came to the private shelter in Zalau and had the chance to travel abroad. For Red, who is affectionately called "Eddie" in his foster home, we are looking for a dog-experienced home without children. He needs a sensitive, loving, and consistent upbringing. Due to his hunting instinct, he should not be around cats and small animals. He is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas. His EU pet passport is with him and he can travel after a positive assessment. Who will discover the beautiful big world with Red? Many thanks to Rita E.! Stand: 11.12.2024

About Red

What life with Red looks like

Red is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Red, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Red?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Red on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Red if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Red already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Red isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Red and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
