Adopt Reika

Belgian Malinois · Female

At a foster home in 13469 Berlin. Reika is still searching for a suitable permanent home. Reika is a great female dog who had to wait a long time for her travel arrangements. Since the beginning of the year, she now experiences in her foster home how wonderful living with humans can be and shows her best side. Friendly and cooperative, Reika is enthusiastic about anything related to movement and head work. In her foster home, she almost runs daily on a bicycle and goes for 2 to 3 hours of walks. That she does this while preferring to roll around in strong scents has already brought her more than enough showers. But Reika carries it with composure and has even gotten used to the hairdryer. What she won't shy away from doing at the next opportunity to "re-fragrance" herself. Despite the longer stay in our stray dog village, Reika has quickly adapted to life in a household. Not only the hairdryer, but also the vacuum cleaner, television, and coffee machine are now no longer strange to her. Malinois-like, she curiously inspects her surroundings and frequently scans them for edible items. Forget to clear the workspace or take out the trash? Reika will certainly remind you of it. 😄 Quite a lot going on! But Reika not only has an active side, but also a sensitive one. If it gets too much for her, she makes that clear. For example, she might tug at clothes, jump on her people, or react to blankets and cushions. Basic commands like sit, stay, down, and come are already working quite well, and the recall (currently still on a leash) is improving as well.

About Reika

What life with Reika looks like

Reika is a adult belgian malinois dog waiting at Streunerglück e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Reika, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Reika?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Streunerglück e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Reika on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Reika if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Streunerglück e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Reika already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Reika isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Streunerglück e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Reika and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
