Adopt Relu

Mixed Breed · Unknown

The approximately one-year-old mixed-breed female dog Relu is looking for a calm and understanding home where she can arrive at her own pace. Relu is one of the more cautious dogs, who initially meets new people and unfamiliar situations with reserve. At the same time, she shows curiosity and attentiveness and would like to get to know her surroundings - but she needs time, patience, and the opportunity to slowly build trust. At the animal shelter, Relu has so far been friendly and not pushy. Once she realizes that no harm is intended, she becomes increasingly interested and starts to orient herself more towards her trusted people. People who are willing to give her the necessary security and do not have immediate expectations of her can surely experience many small and large progress with her. Relu gets along well with other dogs. A confident only dog could possibly provide her with orientation in her new home and help her settle in more quickly. Of course, this requires that there is a mutual affinity between the dogs and that the existing dog gives her enough space. However, it is also possible for Relu to live as a single dog in a home with sensitive people who have dog experience or the willingness to deal intensively with insecure dogs. For Relu we wish a rather quiet environment without much hustle and bustle, where she can gain confidence step by step. The participation in a positive dog training class could further support her. Due to her young age, she has good prerequisites to learn a lot and continue to develop. Relu is looking for people with patience, understanding and a loving approach, who give her the time she needs. Anyone who is ready to appreciate small progress and give a sensitive young female dog the chance for a new life could find a loyal companion in Relu.

About Relu

What life with Relu looks like

Relu is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. in Dormagen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Relu, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Relu?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Relu on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Relu if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Relu already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Relu isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Dormagen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Relu and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
