Reuben (Roo)

Male · Puppy · 5 months

Reuben is a 5 month old mixed breed pup. We can’t overstate what a lovely, well-balanced dog he is. He was found many weeks ago in West Cork with no microchip, no collar and no owner claiming him in spite of several appeals. Reuben is happy and easy-going, he just bundles along delighted with life and thrilled with everyone he meets. He is going to make a great family pet or companion dog for the lucky people who offer him a loving and active home. Reuben already walks really well on the lead and his recall offlead is great. He has been well-socialised with us here and would be fine to be rehomed with another dog. He occasionally leaps up out of joy and happiness but he is a quick learner and understands when you want him to sit instead. Reuben can live with children. Please bear in mind that when he is fully grown he will be a medium / large sized dog, so perhaps best not to be homed with really young kids, but kids 6+ would be fine. He has no tendency to nip or mouth. It is hard to toilet train pups at WCAWG because they are left for longer hours overnight at the rescue than they would be in a home. Still, Reuben knows to use the back, outdoor part of his kennel for any night-time toilet breaks and we are confident that house-training, with consistency, will be no hassle. Reuben will not be neutered before going to his new home, he should have the chance to reach a year of age before this is considered. New owners should bear in mind that this is something they will need to oversee, and we will be checking up to see that it has been done!

About Reuben (Roo)

What life with Reuben (Roo) looks like

Reuben (Roo) is a large puppy/kitten dog waiting at West Cork Animals in Cork.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇮🇪Adopting from Ireland

Irish shelters require a home check (often phone or video) and an adoption contract. Animals are vaccinated, chipped, and registered. Cross-border placements to mainland Europe require the rabies titer test (TRACES system).

Frequently asked

Adopting Reuben (Roo), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Reuben (Roo)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. West Cork Animals handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Reuben (Roo) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Reuben (Roo) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — West Cork Animals will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Reuben (Roo) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Reuben (Roo) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with West Cork Animals early rather than rehoming privately; they know Reuben (Roo) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
