Rex

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Rex is a dog with a special story, who found a home when he was still a puppy. Unfortunately, over time it turned out that the owners did not pay enough attention to Rex's upbringing and care. They swept every problem under the rug, left all responsibility on him, and as a result, Rex reacts badly to almost everything nowadays. Unfortunately, this is something people do not see very far ahead when they adopt a dog to a family. Rex had to return to the shelter. We are back on Rex's side again, but the dog's behavior has changed so much that we almost do not recognize him. His uncertainty and shyness show up in frequent barking, growling, and other behavioral problems. Although it will not be easy for us, we are committed to helping Rex. Our goal is to shape him into a dog who can trust people again and live a balanced, happy life. We do all of this so that Rex eventually finds the loving owner who understands and can take care of him, where he can find long-term happiness.

HU·Show original

Rexnek vissza kellett térnie a menhelyre.

About Rex

What life with Rex looks like

Rex is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Állatvédelmi Centrum in Hungary.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rex, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rex?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Állatvédelmi Centrum handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rex on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rex if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Állatvédelmi Centrum will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rex already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rex isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Állatvédelmi Centrum early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rex and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
