Rhett

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

As part of our year-round castration support on an active farm, a young tomcat named Rhett fell into our trap in early June. Nobody had seen him at the feeding station, and no one in the village recognized him. He was clearly very thin and appeared very anxious, with a noticeable deformity in his left eye. After his castration and a thorough eye examination, Rhett spent several days at our veterinary care facility, where it quickly became clear that he was becoming more comfortable being handled, groomed, and even cuddled. Still, Rhett is somewhat fearful and hides a lot. He needs to understand a completely new world where he is no longer chased away by dominant tomcats, where he doesn’t have to fight for food, and where people approach him kindly. With his microchip, he likely sees only in shades of light and dark and can only perceive movement. Rhett is estimated to be one year old, and he is currently neutered and marked with a tattoo. We believe the gentle young tomcat deserves a chance at a new life away from the large cat group on the farm. Would you consider adopting him? We look forward to your adoption application.

About Rhett

What life with Rhett looks like

Rhett is a large young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Katzenhilfe Ulm e.V. in Ulm.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rhett, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rhett?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Katzenhilfe Ulm e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rhett on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rhett if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Katzenhilfe Ulm e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rhett already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rhett isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Katzenhilfe Ulm e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rhett and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
