RICARDO

Maltipoo · Male · Puppy · 9 months

Our unneutered Maltipoo-mix male, Ricardo, was born around October 2025. Unfortunately, his owner could no longer provide him with adequate care, which is why Ricardo was given to us. He currently weighs 8.5 kg and stands about 45 cm tall at the shoulder. Ricardo is a young, sensitive dog who is very people-oriented, cuddly, and playful toward his primary caregivers. Once he has built trust, he thoroughly enjoys being close to his humans and proves to be a loyal companion. However, towards strangers, Ricardo is extremely insecure and reacts with anxiety—even to the point of panic. At present, he allows himself to be touched only by his caregiver or his primary person. It will take a great deal of time, patience, and empathy for him to build trust. His new owners should be prepared to let him set the pace and have no expectations whatsoever regarding rapid progress. Since Ricardo has had little exposure to environmental stimuli so far, he needs to learn the basics of dog behavior practically from scratch. He requires a calm home with clear structures, firm rules, and consistent yet loving guidance that provides him with security and orientation. We therefore expect our future owners to have some prior experience with dogs. Ricardo gets along very well with other dogs and enjoys taking cues from them. An experienced first dog could help him get off to a good start in his new home, but it is not a requirement. For Ricardo, we would like a quiet home—preferably with a family that includes calm, understanding older children who respect his need for retreat. Due to his insecurity, it should not initially be expected that he can already be left alone. Once Ricardo has built trust, he becomes active and full of energy. He would certainly enjoy participating in joint sporting activities or dog sports once he has gained sufficient confidence. -0Fax: 089/90 73 20E-Mail

-0Fax: 089/90 73 20E-Mail

About RICARDO

What life with RICARDO looks like

RICARDO is a puppy/kitten maltipoo dog waiting at Tierschutzverein München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting RICARDO, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about RICARDO?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein München handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw RICARDO on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt RICARDO if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein München will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is RICARDO already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if RICARDO isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein München early rather than rehoming privately; they know RICARDO and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
