adoption requirements adoption process Now adopt this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Ricardo has found a home! His story: The curious Ricardo wants to explore the world! Abandoned and fearing to be killed because he was not wanted where he lived, Ricardo spent his past in fear. His experiences with humans were mostly cruel rather than kind. Nevertheless, he has not lost his trust in us. Despite his experiences, he is reserved but still approachable and very inquisitive. Every day he makes progress and is very happy to receive affection and treats, which he eats with great enthusiasm from your hand. The harness and leash still need some getting used to, but we are working on it. The handsome male dog, whose face coloring reminds one of a big pair of glasses, is about 3 years old, approximately 57 cm tall, and weighs around 27 kg. For Ricardo, we are searching for a home where he can take his time to adjust and learn the life in a household, which he might have never experienced before. With empathy and patience, Ricardo will surely become a wonderful family member, one you can rely on through thick and thin. The kind male dog gets along well with his fellow animals. After getting used to his new environment, he would also surely enjoy attending a dog training class that works with positive reinforcement. Here, he can not only form social connections but also grow even closer with his new human family. Ricardo would also be very happy to have a foster home. He travels neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and flea-treated, and will bring his own EU pet passport. Against an adoption fee of 500 Euro, he can move in. Can Ricardo earn your trust? Many thanks, Mr. Jay! You named Ricardo. As of 22.02.

Vielen Dank Mr. Jay! Du hast Ricardo seinen Namen geschenkt. Stand: 22.02.2025

About Ricardo

What life with Ricardo looks like

Ricardo is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ricardo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ricardo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ricardo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ricardo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ricardo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ricardo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ricardo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
