Richie

Jack Russell Terrier · Male · Young · 2 years

Richie is a 2-year-old Jack Russell Cross with a heart full of potential. This super sweet but nervous boy hasn't had the best start in life and has missed out on many of the experiences that help dogs feel confident in the world around them. He is searching for understanding adopters who can help him discover that the world isn't such a scary place, allowing him all the time and space he requires to build confidence at his own pace. Once Richie feels comfortable, his lovely personality begins to shine through. He enjoys gently taking treats from familiar people, coming over for a curious sniff hello, and having fun with his toys. A game of fetch is one of his favourite activities, and he is always happy to chase after a ball Richie would love a calm, patient home with adopters who understand that settling in and building confidence is a journey rather than a race! A private, secure garden will give him a safe space to relax, play and explore, as venturing out on walks is currently a little too overwhelming for him. He could share his home with sensible older children of upper secondary school age who can respect he would like a quiet home. Richie would particularly benefit from living alongside another dog (females neutered) as he gains reassurance from following another dog's lead and this would help him adjust to home life. He may also be able to live with cats and small furries, subject to successful introductions. Richie is looking for adopters who are happy to go back to basics, celebrate every small success and understand that he may not be ready for many of the "normal" dog activities straight away. In return, they will have the opportunity to watch this sweet boy grow in confidence and flourish in a loving home.

About Richie

What life with Richie looks like

Richie is a small young adult jack russell terrier dog waiting at Dogs Trust Manchester in Manchester.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Richie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Richie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Manchester handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Richie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Richie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Manchester will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Richie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Richie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Manchester early rather than rehoming privately; they know Richie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
