Adopt Ricki (Pici)

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 15 years

Information about "Pici" Breed: Dachshund mix Gender: male Born: 10.02.2011 (estimated) Color: brown Vaccinations: Yes neutered: Yes Chip: Yes Service dog: No shoulder height: approx. 25 cm Location: 25476 Heide, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany Information on the dog's stay Update 15.12.2025 Ricki / Pici has now moved into a new foster home. Here he has a single place according to his age. Unfortunately, he had problems with his teeth again and had to visit the vet. For us, this resulted in a bill of over 400,-€, although the vet was unable to remove the broken tooth. Ricki is looking for godparents, as it is very difficult for us to bear these costs alone. A visit to another veterinarian showed that the tooth can remain for now. In view of a further anesthesia, an ultrasound was performed, and apart from three very small kidney stones, Ricki / Pici is in top condition. At the beginning of February 2026, Ricki / Pici celebrated his 15th birthday as a little prince. Update 20.07.2025 Ricki / Pici has already been in the foster home for over a year, from a very fat, clumsy dachshund puppy he has become a cheerful, agile dog. In this one year, he has lost over 5 kg. Update 12.08.2024 Ricki / Pici has already been in the foster home for a while, he gets along well with the other dogs and also has no problems with the cats. We are very happy that he has lost a kilogram from the original 14.4 kg and work is still being done on it. Update 02.06.2024 Ricki / Pici was very lucky, a family soon expressed interest in him, unfortunately it failed due to the kindness of the family. He needs clear, consistent treatment from his people, otherwise he tries to push his dachshund head. If he has leadership, he is a pleasant companion. His teeth were done by a veterinarian and work is being done on his weight. Ricki / Pici urgently needs a new home. Update 06.04.2024: Ricki / Pici came to his family three years ago, until last year he lived there peacefully with his people. Since his people's illness, he is completely overwhelmed by the situation in his home, so he tried to grab his mistress. Also, the circumstances in his home are not good for him, he does not go out enough and it would have been good if you had informed us earlier. On the foster home it turned out that Ricki / Pici is very overweight and his teeth are also not good. Background: Pici and Fickó were simply left behind, their owners just moved away and went abroad. Pici, which means little or tiny, was left tied up in the yard of the house. The neighbor immediately alerted the Hungarian colleagues, who improved the conditions and care for the two friendly male dogs a bit. Both dogs received isolated dog houses, their food was taken care of. They will soon be neutered, microchipped and receive the necessary vaccinations. Both dogs are very friendly and approach people curiously, how they behave with other animals we still have to find out. About Ricki (Pici)

What life with Ricki (Pici) looks like

Ricki (Pici) is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein TS Nie mehr allein e.V. in Mildstedt.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ricki (Pici), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ricki (Pici)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein TS Nie mehr allein e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ricki (Pici) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ricki (Pici) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein TS Nie mehr allein e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ricki (Pici) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ricki (Pici) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein TS Nie mehr allein e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ricki (Pici) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
