Ricky

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 4 months

Description Our animal welfare workers report: Ricky is the son of Mona, who gave birth to her puppies (Ronja, Rocky, etc.) under the harshest conditions (in snow and ice). Ricky had a belly wound and underwent surgery. He is a little fighter who has already experienced more than a puppy should. When he was secured with his mother and siblings, it became immediately clear that something was wrong with Ricky. At the vet, it was discovered that the belly wound was likely caused by a violent kick. For the little guy, this meant a tough road ahead, as he had to be operated on immediately. The worst part, however, was that he had to be kept quiet for healing and spent a long time in a cage. While this was a necessary time, it was not one that a young puppy should have to endure. Today, Ricky is on the road to recovery and enjoys his freedom, the grass under his paws, and the company of other dogs! Born around mid-January with a shoulder height of approximately 30-35 cm (growing), he is a brave, lively little dog who, despite everything, has managed to preserve his curiosity and zest for life. He loves to snuggle and is puppyishly curious and friendly towards people. He also has no problems with cats; he gets along well with them. Currently, he still has issues with one front paw, which is still being treated – but he is making significant progress towards recovery. Ricky is looking for people with heart and understanding. People who will give him the time he needs and accompany him on his further journey. Who will give this special little fighter the chance at a life that is finally shaped by care, security, and love? About Ricky

What life with Ricky looks like

Ricky is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Ricky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Ricky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Ricky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Ricky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Ricky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Ricky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Ricky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
