Rigodon

Mixed Breed · Male

Description Our animal welfare workers report: This is the sad story of Rigodon, the master thief and climber who narrowly escaped his treacherous killing. Rigordon’s story is marked by the harsh life of a Spanish stray and the heartless pursuit by the residents of a villa district. In a villa district, the hungry male dog was searching for food. Rigodon was intelligent and discovered a villa where several dogs were kept. He risked his life multiple times and stole some of their meager rations over several weeks, thirsty and with a growling stomach. Then, the villa owners threatened to kill the stray. Rigodon had a guardian angel: as the animal welfare association ADA Canals received a timely tip, they were able to save him from being shot, beaten, or hung. Before the daring Rigodon stole back onto the villa grounds to scavenge for a little food, our animal welfare workers caught him. For Rigodon, no capture attempts were necessary; he ran up willingly, allowed a collar to be put on him, and could be easily set into the car without any problems. The intelligent survival artist gets along well with fellow animals at the animal shelter, except with intrusive male dogs. In the run, Rigodon shows his social compatibility with other dogs multiple times daily. He shows no resource defense. The fearless mixed breed is not at all afraid, not even of men or strangers. Low fences are no obstacle for the versatile snout, he can climb well, even though he doesn’t look like it. As Rigodon is a very independent four-legged creature, some dog experience would be advantageous. He has so far presented himself positively in every situation. His future family should consider that this inventive dog has survived only through his independence, cleverness, and tenacity, which characterize his unique life path and certainly shaped his special personality. Rigodon deserves finally a loyal home where he no longer has to be a food thief and fight so hard every day. Information about leishmaniasis Please note:

About Rigodon

What life with Rigodon looks like

Rigodon is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rigodon, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rigodon?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rigodon on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rigodon if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rigodon already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rigodon isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rigodon and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
