Rino

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Adult · 8 years

The absolutely loving and uncomplicated Rino is a really great and “simple” dog. He walks wonderfully on the leash and loves cuddles. We would be happy to introduce him to a person/family who has a lot of time for him. Also, a second dog would not be a problem for Rino; he gets along well with other dogs. His nose is currently in treatment, he has the rare, non-contagious autoimmune disease Pemphigus foliaceus. This is a skin condition in dogs where the immune system attacks the skin, leading to blisters, crusts, and hair loss. The most common form of Pemphigus often starts on the face/ears and is chronic but can be well managed through long-term immunosuppressive therapy. With consistent treatment, the prognosis is often favorable, although the disease is usually not curable and requires lifelong monitoring. Rino responds very well to the therapy with corticosteroids, and his nose already looks much better. Once the skin heals, he will always need sunscreen on the affected area. We suspect that his hair on the nose will not grow back. The pink spots come from the pigment loss due to the chronic inflammation, and this will also remain. Rino has full quality of life despite this diagnosis. We are happy to provide further advice if you are interested in him, and our veterinarian is also available to assist with any questions.

About Rino

What life with Rino looks like

Rino is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Linth in Switzerland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rino, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rino?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Linth handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rino on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rino if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Linth will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rino already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rino isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Linth early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rino and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
