Rio

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 11 years

Rio has been with us for almost 10 years… he came to the animal shelter at the age of 7 months. He has come a long way, had his own home, yet his story took a dark turn due to the death of his caretaker and Rio returned to us 3 years ago. When you get to know him through his head, you don't think he could have gone through so much. So much is expressed in his subtleties! This is another dog that we can say carries a large dose of calmness. That he has so much of it in relation to the outside world is one thing - Rio also needs to receive it in return. The ideal situation is one where he can experience it despite his stay at the animal shelter, consisting of a walk and a kind, quiet person who accompanies him. Such time is very important for him, because Rio needs a break from sounds and stimuli, which he then has to deal with. He has mastered the art of resting during walks perfectly! He hasn't experienced another ideal situation yet, but we have a deep hope that one day he will, and that is spending entire days sleeping in a quiet and peaceful home. Rio may not shout out loud that he loves someone, but it's simply felt when he feels good and close to someone. It's impossible not to mention that Rio is also a great companion for walks with other dogs - he is polite, but he can also say what he doesn't like. We have to admit that he is so good at this that when trying to choose walking pairs, we almost always want to add him to someone... and yet we can't put everything on his head! Rio deserves nice walks, in the company that does not tire him, but is friendly. Rio is currently near Poznan and is under the care of the Association from the Forest Edge, which runs the adoption process and reserves the right to choose the caregiver.

About Rio

What life with Rio looks like

Rio is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Fundacja Puszatek in Warszawa.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rio, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rio?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Fundacja Puszatek handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rio on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rio if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Fundacja Puszatek will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rio already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rio isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Fundacja Puszatek early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rio and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
