Rio2

Mixed Breed · Male · Puppy · 4 months

Rio2 lived with his brothers Balu and Brody at the municipal animal shelter. How they ended up there is unknown. Whether they were picked up as puppies on the street or given up by the owner, we do not know. At the shelter, they were given the wrong food, which they did not eat and became thinner. Since they live with Maria José (who supports the La Solana animal shelter) at the large foster home, they are doing better. They have gained weight, been fully vaccinated, chipped and dewormed, and are lively and playful. Rio2 is a lively and lovable young dog. He prefers to be with the other dogs, he likes to play or rest in the shade. Rio2 has not had regular contact with people so far, so it seems as if he prefers the contact with his brothers. He is not shy, he just doesn't know yet that it feels good to be stroked by human hands. He is learning that at the foster home :-) Rio2 is most likely a herding dog mix. He will grow to about 50 cm and will love to run and take varied walks with his human (as soon as he is old enough). These dogs are clever and eager to learn. Of course, he still has a lot to learn, like all young dogs: housebreaking, walking relaxed on a leash, even staying alone. He can already drive a car :-) Rio2 is now urgently looking for a good home, because he should not have to grow up in an animal shelter. He needs a loving and stable framework, and a person who takes very good care of him. There are many dogs living at the foster home, so unfortunately there is not enough time to give each dog the best possible support. The dear Rio2 can also move in with an existing dog, as he is very compatible. Please note: The feedback from the animal shelters reflects the current behavior of the dogs here.

About Rio2

What life with Rio2 looks like

Rio2 is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierischgeholfen e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rio2, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rio2?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierischgeholfen e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rio2 on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rio2 if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierischgeholfen e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rio2 already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rio2 isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierischgeholfen e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rio2 and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
