Adopt Rita

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 7 months

♀, born ca. 10/2025 puppy type - friendly - curious - next in 15517 Fürstenwalde Rita is a ca. 10/2025 born mixed-breed female dog with a current shoulder height of ca. 33 cm. She will grow to be at least medium-sized and weigh around 20 kg. Rita was found with other puppies together on the municipal cemetery in Sofia/Bulgaria. There, unwanted animals are left to die and are carelessly abandoned. A stroke of luck is that our animal protection colleague was back on site and was able to secure all of them and take them into her small emergency station. There, they are now being raised and prepared for their travel arrangements. The good news for the puppies is that they now just need a wonderful home. The cute, lacquerschwarz Rita shows a typical puppy curiosity, plays around with the others, and is simply sweet as can be. Of course, Rita must learn the entire doggie ABC, be house-trained, learn to be alone, and also learn to wear a leash. With the help of dog training classes and the right support, she will learn this quickly. Yes, it can be that at the beginning Rita helps with the "redecorating" or tastes a little something, which is part of growing up. Also, cuddle times should not be too short. Rita has a lot to catch up on. Rita can embark on her journey to a new, wonderful, and fitting home in early January. Given her expected size, we do not see her in the city center or where Rita has to climb many stairs. She would be happy to move to a social, puppy-friendly only dog home. Rita is vaccinated and microchipped and will be rehomed. For the Snap-4-D-Test and castration, she is still too young. She will be in 15517 Fürstenwalde next. The adoption fee for Rita is 460 €. About Rita

What life with Rita looks like

Rita is a puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. in Berlin.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rita, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rita?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rita on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rita if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rita already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rita isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Freund fürs Leben e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rita and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
