adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! River has found her home! Her story: River is a dainty female dog looking for a home where she can grow up. At just 30 cm in size, she fits everywhere, but her big heart and friendly nature are unmistakable. River is a lovable, clingy, and very trusting young lady who quickly builds trust and enjoys the company of her people. She gets along well with other dogs, cats, and children and shows herself to be a uncomplicated companion on her foster home with Ana. Her story began unfortunately on the street where she was found – her sister has not yet been caught. River has the good fortune to be in safety and is now ready for the next big step. Visually, River resembles a terrier-mixed breed, and these genes bring with them a vigilant, intelligent, and energetic character. Terriers are smart heads that need both a meaningful mental challenge and daily exercise. Her future people should enjoy training, long walks, and perhaps even dog sports, because River is no ordinary lap dog. Her courage and self-assurance require consistent, but always fair and loving guidance to channel her wonderful talents in the right direction. At 10 months old, River is in the exciting phase of the "teenage years." This means that she may sometimes forget what she has learned, test boundaries, or be easily distracted. We are looking for people with patience, humor, and clarity to guide River through this turbulent time. A solid daily routine, clear rules, and a trusting bond are now the key to shaping her into a confident adult. If you are ready to master this transition phase with joy and give a wonderful young terrier-mix lady the chance at a fulfilling life, then contact us. River travels neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and flea-treated, together with her EU pet passport, to her new home. After a positive foster home, the little mouse would also be happy. Many thanks to Martina K.! You gave River her name and thus her identity. As of: 08.12.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Stand: 08.12.2025

About River

What life with River looks like

River is a medium-sized puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting River, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about River?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw River on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt River if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is River already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if River isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know River and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
