Rocco

European Shorthair · Male · Young · 2 years

Rocco is a 2-year-old neutered male cat who was found wandering in Ixelles. When he was taken in, Rocco was thin, dirty, covered in dust, and terribly hungry. Despite his condition, he immediately showed himself to be very kind to the people who helped him. Now safe and properly fed, Rocco remains extremely focused on food. After experiencing hunger, he guards his food bowl and may react when another cat approaches, or if someone tries to take it away. He may be able to live with other cats, but managing meals will be an important point: Rocco will need to be able to eat quietly, in a space where he does not feel forced to defend his food. This behavior is likely related to what he experienced on the streets, and it is possible that this insecurity around food will remain present for a long time, even once he is settled in his new home. Rocco will also need access to the outdoors after a long enough adjustment period. His ideal home: understanding adopters who are attentive to his past. Outdoor access after his adjustment period. Meals served in a quiet and secure place. Separate food bowl management with other cats so he can eat without stress. Rocco has known hunger and insecurity. It may take some time for him to understand that he will no longer have to fight for his next meal.

FR·Show original

About Rocco

What life with Rocco looks like

Rocco is a young adult european shorthair cat waiting at SRPA Veeweyde Brussels in Brussels.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rocco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rocco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SRPA Veeweyde Brussels handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rocco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rocco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SRPA Veeweyde Brussels will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rocco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rocco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SRPA Veeweyde Brussels early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rocco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
