Rocco

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 9 years

Rocco is a male mixed breed dog, possibly a mix of Jindo and German Shepherd. He has been at the shelter since August 2017. Rocco has spent most of his life at the shelter, and it is high time he found a loving family to call home forever. He has the cutest permanent airplane ears you've ever seen! Although he may be a bit shy at first, Rocco warms up quickly during walks with volunteers and other dogs. In fact, he is super friendly to other dogs, especially to his kennel mate Reba. When she is around, he becomes more open and adventurous. Rocco loves being outside, exploring and playing with his furry friends. Here is what some of our volunteers have to say about Rocco: "Meet Rocco! He is the sweetest boy and was so happy to go for a walk outside. He is a well-behaved boy who did not pull during our walk and was not particularly interested in the other dogs. Sometimes he was a bit shy, but showed more courage when his roommate was around. He enjoyed stopping at the river to drink, but he did not want to get his paws wet or swim. But he was very interested in treats. Who could resist this wonderful face and deny him a treat? Rocco seems to have less energy and would be a fantastic couch potato or cuddle buddy. Whenever I got to his eye level, he came to cuddle and head rubs. He is so kind and lovable." "Meet Rocco from kennel 25 at Gwangju Animal Shelter. He has won my heart with his handsome looks and gentle nature. Rocco is a shy dog who could benefit from some more training and contact with the outside world to build his confidence. When he is unsure, he stands still and sniffs the ground for a while. I had to carry him up and down the hill, but Rocco didn't mind. He loves being petted and is a sweet kennel mate for Reba, who is much more anxious and shy than he is. With love and time, he will make a great family dog! Please show Rocco some love." Rocco is looking for his forever home where he can have a loving family and feel safe. The Korean animal welfare workers prepare the dogs well for a home. They are house-trained, social and friendly. The dogs go to foster homes in Korea so they can quickly feel safe and comfortable in a home. If you are interested in Rocco, please download the relevant questionnaire and send it back to us completed. Thank you! Rocco is looking forward to your inquiry! ♥ More information: the dogs come to Germany with flight sponsors via Traces and the required health documents. They are vaccinated, chipped and dewormed. Animal welfare concerns and legal requirements are strictly adhered to. Important information: the exact date of birth will be communicated shortly before the flight, we only know the year of birth.

About Rocco

What life with Rocco looks like

Rocco is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at German Hands meet Korean Paws e.V. in Ebstorf.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rocco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rocco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. German Hands meet Korean Paws e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rocco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rocco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — German Hands meet Korean Paws e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rocco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rocco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with German Hands meet Korean Paws e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rocco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
