Rocco

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Rocco has found his own home! His story: Rocco is the best proof that age is just a number! Even though a few gray hairs might be visible on his cute face, this gentle male dog still has plenty of enthusiasm for life, curiosity, and love in his heart. Currently, he lives in a foster home in Leipzig – and there, it quickly becomes clear: Rocco is a real gem. He loves cuddling, regularly seeks the company of his people, and enjoys every pat. At the same time, he can also be very relaxed: while his foster parent works, Rocco is contentedly lying on his blanket or retreating to the open kennel – sometimes even for a nap. He is highly motivated for food and treats – and already shows great potential when it comes to small tricks or learning commands. He is smart and tries to make up for what the time in the shelter has taken away. For a treat, he already has a whole repertoire of cool tricks…what a stud! Currently, he is diligently training the recall, which is getting better all the time. Our spry pensioner is already looking forward to the first running sequences on the green field without this pesky leash on his body! There he can really show off how fashable and fresh he still is! Soon it will be time, Rocco! Outside, Rocco is always more relaxed: the leash walking and behavior around other dogs have been diligently practiced with the foster mom, and Rocco is now doing it really well. He shows a lot of interest in other dogs. Female dogs find him great, but male dogs sometimes still need a secure boundary from Chicolo. He is getting more relaxed. At home, he is an absolute dream: quiet, friendly, open to visitors, and even gentle with children. Loud noises, voices, or the package delivery person? No problem for the sovereign gentleman in his prime. Rocco's past was far from pretty: in Romania, Rocco had to fight for survival. He came to the shelter in Baia Mare as a last resort, his skin was severely damaged, his fur patchy, and he was physically exhausted. But Rocco has recovered incredibly well – physically and mentally. Today, he shows that he still has plenty of energy and is ready to finally arrive. For Rocco, we are looking for loving, patient people who will give him time to settle in, who are eager to explore the world with him – and who take joy in giving a new quality of life to an "older semester." The sweetie has the stuff to be a real heart buddy for people who are looking for a faithful companion. His home should be a bit more stimulating than his foster home in the city. A location on the outskirts or in the countryside would be ideal. Rocco is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and flea-treated. He will stay with you after a positive match. Can Rocco arrive at your place and stay forever? A huge thank you goes to Susanna S., who gave Rocco his name and thus an identity – and supports him through her patronage. As of 29.07.

About Rocco

What life with Rocco looks like

Rocco is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rocco, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rocco?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rocco on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rocco if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rocco already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rocco isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rocco and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
