Rocky

Bull Terrier · Male · Young · 2 years

Rocky is a young, beautiful, affectionate, and witty dog, somewhere between a dandelion and C4. Highly sensitive and yet highly explosive in the wrong hands. Rocky lives with staff for housing. Here he shows himself every day cheerful, unobtrusive, calm. An old trickster who relies on very clear rules and boundaries. Like a rope in the sea on which he can orient himself. If he loses this lifeline, he drifts out and swims in chaos. No safety, pure chaos, noise, destruction. Just these properties of C4. He has learned to regulate himself here. Triggers that used to make him attack are perceived by him with interest but without tension. Rocky is sensitive, has good basic obedience and is compatible with other dogs. However, these should have their own position that Rocky can orient himself to, provide him with a framework in which he can move. These clear boundaries and rules from humans and other dogs are crucial for him and his further development. Rocky came to the shelter at 5 months old. There, under constant tension, stress and frustration, this still very malleable young dog developed into a dog that quitted every situation in which he was excited or frustrated with redirecting/attacking the person. It was not possible to reach him here, instead the dopamine kick in his attacks reinforced his behavior. So we gave him the chance to learn in a domestic environment how to behave adequately. Here he gradually came to life, we trained, offered him important social contacts. The attacks and his overload became less, set boundaries and nice experiences became bigger. He developed. He enjoys belonging fully, having a connection, being part of the family. Rocky is not yet at the end of the training and there will still be triggers that will make him tip over in his behavior. We are working with him and are confident. Rocky is looking for a home without small dogs and children! With people who understand the meaning of a muzzle. He is a true buddy and a sportsman who is finally ready to move into his own family. If interested, please send an email!

About Rocky

What life with Rocky looks like

Rocky is a young adult bull terrier dog waiting at Tierheim Lübeck in Lübeck.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rocky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rocky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Lübeck handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rocky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rocky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Lübeck will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Rocky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rocky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Lübeck early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rocky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
