Street dog Rocky was cared for by a woman in a small village near the capital of Chios. Unfortunately, this woman became seriously ill, and since she couldn't find an adopter for Rocky, she asked the veterinarian to put him to sleep. The veterinarian refused to do so and instead asked the shelter for help. It turned out that Rocky not only had leishmaniasis but also a benign tumor in his ear. The tumor was removed, but afterward, Rocky developed a chronic ear infection. A wound on his cheek became infected, leading to a fistula—a passage—from his ear to his cheek. This was when Rocky’s real troubles began. After numerous vet visits, surgeries, and antibiotic treatments, the problem is now fairly well under control. The fistula is still there, and earwax now drains from his ear through his cheek—but thanks to daily cleaning and occasional antibiotic courses, Rocky leads a happy life nonetheless. Despite his medical issues, Rocky is a cheerful, affectionate, sweet, and almost deaf little dog. He lives with four other dogs in and around the house belonging to the shelter and loves to pay short visits to his “old friends” at the shelter. With a very special little sound or bark, he eagerly asks for attention so he can get the cuddles he believes he’s entitled to. Most of all, he loves to curl up on someone’s lap in front of the fireplace.

Straathondje Rocky werd verzorgd door een mevrouw in een dorpje vlakbij de hoofdstad van Chios. Deze mevrouw werd helaas ernstig ziek en aangezien ze geen adoptie voor Rocky kon vinden vroeg ze de dierenarts om hem in te laten slapen. De dierenarts wilde dit niet doen en vroeg de shelter om hulp.Rocky bleek niet alleen leishmania te hebben maar had ook een goedaardige tumor in z’n oor. Deze is verwijderd maar hierna kreeg hij een chronische oorontsteking. Door een wond op z’n wang die ontstoken raakte ontstond er een fistel (doorgang) van z’n oor naar z’n wang. Hiermee begonnen de grote problemen voor Rocky. Na veel dierenartsbezoeken, operaties en antibiotica kuren is het probleem redelijk onder controle. De fistel is er nog steeds, het oorsmeer verlaat nu zijn oor via zijn wang maar door dagelijks schoon te maken en af en toe een antibiotica kuur leidt Rocky toch een vrolijk leven. Ondanks zijn medische problemen is Rocky een vrolijk, aanhankelijk, lief en nagenoeg doof hondje. Hij leeft samen met 4 andere honden in en om het huis dat bij de shelter hoort en gaat graag even op bezoek bij zijn “oude vriendjes” in de shelter. Met een heel speciaal geluidje/blafje vraagt hij graag om aandacht zodat hij de knuffels krijgt waar hij, volgens hemzelf, recht op heeft. Het allerliefste ligt hij op schoot bij een mens voor de open haard.
