Wanted: A home for Rocky | tomcat | EKH | black and white Age: *2013 Neutered: Yes Vaccinated: Yes Microchipped: Yes In new home: Free-roaming: Yes Single-keeping: Yes Compatibility with other animals: Unknown, but we wish for a home where he can be the center of attention. Important to know: Despite everything, Rocky is lovable and deserves a second chance. He deserves a second life in responsible hands. Rocky is an approximately 13-year-old neutered tomcat who, according to his previous owner, spent most of his life outdoors. Unfortunately, his journey to us was not a pleasant one: He was presented at a veterinary clinic with the request to have him put to sleep. Upon examination, it quickly became apparent that Rocky had been severely neglected. He had fleas and his teeth were in a catastrophic state. It is likely that he had been in pain for a long time. About half a year earlier, he had apparently already been presented at an animal clinic with a similar problem. The owner could not afford treatment then, nor now. Fortunately, the veterinary clinic saw no reason for euthanasia. Instead, they recommended giving him up – and so Rocky finally came to us. He has already been treated for fleas, is receiving pain medication and antibiotics, and a much-needed dental procedure is scheduled soon. Rocky is still trying to understand the world after all the changes, which is no surprise. Despite this, he is surprisingly relaxed, friendly, and above all: He has a big appetite. With the pain medication, eating is now going much better, showing how much he is being helped. For Rocky, we wish for a calm, loving home where he can settle in and finally receive the care he has missed for so long.

About Rocky

What life with Rocky looks like

Rocky is a large senior cat waiting at Tierschutzverein Hilchenbach in Hilchenbach.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rocky, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rocky?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Hilchenbach handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rocky on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rocky if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Hilchenbach will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rocky already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rocky isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Hilchenbach early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rocky and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
