Roki

Mixed Breed · Male · Senior · 15 years

Roki ended up at our shelter following an intervention by the WIOZ Foundation. For a long time, he had been living in very poor conditions, which is why the decision was made to take him into care. When he first arrived with us, it was immediately clear that he’d been lacking proper care for years. He was neglected, with bald patches, overgrown claws, and hearing problems. It was evident that the veterinarian had been a rare visitor in his life. Despite all this, Roki hasn’t lost his gentle nature. He’s an older dog who lives a bit in his own world. He doesn’t rush anywhere, doesn’t chase balls, and doesn’t seek out big adventures. What brings him the greatest joy are peaceful walks, during which he can leisurely sniff around in the grass and explore the world in his own way. Roki allows all grooming procedures without any trouble. He’s patient and calm, and his needs are truly minimal. He dreams of a quiet home, a soft bed, and a person who can give him what he’s been missing for so many years—the feeling of safety, care, and love. We’re looking for a peaceful home for Roki, where he can finally feel valued and important. We believe that despite his difficult past, his best chapter can still be ahead of him. Could it be you who helps Roki find his safe haven?

PL·Show original

About Roki

What life with Roki looks like

Roki is a senior mixed breed dog waiting at Schronisko Skałowo in Poland.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Roki, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Roki?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Schronisko Skałowo handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Roki on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Roki if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Schronisko Skałowo will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Roki already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Roki isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Schronisko Skałowo early rather than rehoming privately; they know Roki and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
