Adopt Rollo

Mixed Breed · Male

Our mixed-breed male dog Rollo came to us as a stray and is now looking for a lovely home. Since he is a stray, we do not know much about his background or how he behaves in a household. Initially, Rollo finds all unfamiliar people rather annoying and takes some time to build trust. He decides strongly based on personal preference whether he likes someone or not. If he does not like someone, it becomes very difficult to befriend him. Even if he has accepted someone, it does not mean he will let them do anything. Touching, brushing, and drying are not at all enjoyable for Rollo, and he makes this clear by using his teeth. The same goes for visits to the vet. For safety reasons, he wears a muzzle when interacting with us, which he is familiar with and accepts without major issues. Rollo loves going for walks and is generally a pleasant companion, walking calmly on the leash and getting along well with other dogs. However, during some encounters with other dogs, he barks while on the leash, but he is very manageable and can be quickly calmed with confident handling. This kind of confident handling is also what Rollo needs in his daily life. He needs clear boundaries and rules to follow. Additionally, Rollo defends resources such as food and toys. To work on his behavioral issues, we recommend working with a competent dog trainer. We are looking for people who have experience with difficult and behaviorally challenging dogs to take care of Rollo. They should also bring patience, time, and perseverance to work on his challenges together. There should be no children, cats, or small animals in his new home. If you are interested, please send a detailed email including your phone number.

About Rollo

What life with Rollo looks like

Rollo is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Troisdorf in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Rollo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Rollo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Troisdorf handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Rollo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Rollo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Troisdorf will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Rollo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Rollo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Troisdorf early rather than rehoming privately; they know Rollo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
